Celebrate the 50th Alaska Folk Festival: A Week of Music and Community
The countdown is over! TODAY the monumental 50th Alaska Folk Festival (AFF) will kick off in beautiful Juneau, Alaska, running from April 7-13, 2025. The festival is thrilled to unveil the #AFF50 poster, artistically crafted by the talented Crystal Worl. This year’s festival promises an incredible lineup of performances, workshops, and community spirit, all at no cost to attendees.
A Musical Experience
Festival-goers can look forward to a week filled with music and culture. Guest Artists Rhiannon Giddens and Dirk Powell will grace the stage with performances on Thursday and Sunday, while the Deke Dickerson Western Swing All Stars will entertain on Friday and Saturday nights. Attendees should not miss Suzanne Girardot calling dances on Thursday and Saturday. With numerous workshops and an array of talented musicians showcasing their skills throughout the week, there is something for everyone.
Why AFF?
The Alaska Folk Festival is not just a celebration of music; it serves a mission to educate and foster the growth of American folk traditions. As the oldest and largest festival of its kind in Alaska, AFF is dedicated to providing opportunities for both professional and non-professional musicians. Here, anyone can take the stage, with performances selected based on availability and chance.
The festival is entirely free to attend, ensuring that everyone can participate in concerts, dances, and workshops. The only exception is the featured guest artist, who receives compensation for their engagement. This unique opportunity allows AFF to bring top talent to the community while encouraging the growth of non-professional performers.
Join the Community
The Alaska Folk Festival thrives on the support of its members and volunteers. The festival invites everyone to become a member today! New members will enjoy a dollar-for-dollar match on their contributions through the end of this celebratory year. This support enables the festival to remain free for everyone and fosters a welcoming environment for musicians and music lovers alike.
Every year, people from all over Alaska, the United States, and beyond travel to Juneau to partake in this joyous event, creating a vibrant community of music enthusiasts. Whether individuals are performers, volunteers, or attendees, their presence makes a difference.
